I'm struggling with purpose questions; I thought both A and C matched pretty well and couldn't pick between the two. I went back and forth. I thought A matched because I thought the second paragraph was introducing an additional interpretation of Alexander's doctrine for marriages (trying to discourage secret marriages) and C I thought was neutral enough to fit since there was additional information presented.

ashpine,

There is simply no difference in viewpoints between the two paragraphs. The second paragraph elaborates upon the facts introduced in the first. There's no different interpretation there. So answer choice (A) has no basis.
