Hi PuzzleheadedStorm268,

Answer choice A contradicts the passage. According to these lines, the volcanic-eruption theory does rely on assumptions about the temperature of molten rock at the lowest part of the Earth's mantle: "Such outpourings of lava are caused by instability in the lowest layer of the Earth's mantle, located just above the Earth's core. As the rock that constitutes this layer is heated by the Earth's core, it becomes less dense and portions of it eventually escape upward as blobs of molten rock, called "diapirs," that can, under certain circumstances, erupt violently through the Earth's crust."

Since this theory relies on eruptions occurring under certain temperature conditions at the lowest layer of Earth's mantle, we can tell that the theory does rely on the assumptions answer choice A identifies.

I hope this helps!
