May I ask, why is C correct? I am still not sure why D is wrong. Any help is much appreciated, thank you. :)

Hi Codey

Let's take a look at answer choices (C) and (D). They both start fairly similarly--research results are either described or presented. Those essentially mean the same thing here, so we don't really need to dive too far into this portion of the answer choices. If we wanted to, we could easily point to the research results described at the start of the third paragraph on the size of canary brains, particularly in the region related to learning songs.

The two answer choices diverge from there. Let's go into the passage to see what it does after presenting the research that the canary brain size varies. Around line 35, the paragraph continues by telling us about the results of further experiments. These experiments allow researchers to detail the number of cells lost and the number of cells regained by spring. The passage then gives a potential explanation.

So, which one of answer choices (C) or (D) describes that? Answer choice (C) matches pretty well---we see the further details in the number of neuron information, and the potential explanation matches the "hypothesis" language in the answer choice. However, answer choice (D) diverges from the passage in a few different ways. The implications aren't really described, but even if they were, there's no application to a related field. There is no related field mentioned in this passage.

Hope that helps!
Rachael
