Diagramming Question

Sure. Here's my understanding about 'some' and 'a majority or most' :

If I say Some A's are B's. I could say that Some B's are A's.

If I say Most A's are B's. I could say that some B's are A's too. Necessary and Sufficient assumptions are not applicable to such conditions.

Hence, to answer your question, Some bad policies are made by weak-minded politicians => some bad policies made by weak minded politicians. (I don't know how to draw, on these forums, the arrow prescribed in your book)

Similarly, the majority of weak-minded politicians are popular. means that
Most weak minded politicians are popular.
It could also mean that some weak-minded politicians are popular. (This is necessarily true because 'most' is a super set of 'some').
It could also mean that some people who are popular are weak-minded politicians.

Am I correct?

If you think that I am correct, can you please answer my other queries. If you want me to open a new thread. I can surely do that. Please let me know what works the best for our community.

Thanks for your response--I was actually hoping to see how you would go about diagramming pairs of statements together, to be sure that you're ready for the test--when writing a response to us, to the right of the text box you'll see we have icons specifically set up for "some," "most," and other representations.

Just to make sure that you are good with this area, take a look at these three statements, and let me know your thoughts on diagramming and combining statements, and any resulting inferences:

I. No athletes are bankers. All bankers are lawyers.

2. Most of the people in New York city are right handed. Most of the people in New York city are happy.

3. All A's are B's. Some B's are C's.

Let me know your thoughts on these, and we'll take it from there--thanks!

Thanks for your reply, Steve! I am not sure how to use 'some' and 'most' arrows on these forums. Every time, I try to use those arrows, the website logs me out.

Let me try:

#1No athletes are bankers. All bankers are lawyers.
Athletes ~bankers
Bankers lawyers

Inference: We cannot combine these.

#2-Most of the people in New York city are right handed. Most of the people in New York city are happy.

Most People in NYC right handed.
Most people in NYC happy

Since we have two "most"s, I can combine them as (there will be an overlap):

some right handed some happy
OR
we could also say that some happy right handed.


#3 All A's are B's. Some B's are C's.

A B

Inference1: some As B
Inference2: some Bs A

Some B C
Inference: some Cs Bs

However, we cannot combine these.

Please let me know your thoughts. I am still eager to know answers to my previous questions
