Content removed due to copyright considerations. This is the Linear Setup Practice Drill, Question #2.1 from the LGB, Ch3, page 91/99

The answer is C. However, I am not sure how the split blocks are counted. Except for D, all the other options makes sense, as they are 2 Spaces from A _D.

Can someone clarify why C is the right answer, and what is the best way of counting the split block questions.

Thank You,

Pooja

Ok, there is a visual presentation in the LGB of the possible block placements (p99 in the 2017 edition), which shows how the A __ D split block can only be placed in 1-3, 2-4, or 3-5. With that in mind, let's look at the two answer referenced above:

Answer choice (A): If A is shown third, then from the split-block rule, D must be shown fifth. That then triggers the other rule ("The Doberman can be shown neither immediately before nor immediately after the English Setter."), which forces E to NOT be shown fourth (it must then be first or second). Because E does not have to be shown second (and could instead be first), and this is a Must Be True question, this answer does not have to be true and is thus incorrect.

Answer choice (C): If C is shown third, then the A __D split block must be shown second-fourth. then, because of the DE/ED Not Block, E must be shown first, leaving only C available to be shown third. Thus, this answer choice must occur and is therefore correct.

I'm not entirely certain what you mean by "what is the best way of counting the split block questions" — can you clarify that for me?

Please let me know if that helps. Thanks!
