Hi --

So I'm noticing from doing chapter 2 drills that every sentence plays a role? So once I find my conclusion, then all other sentences are the premise that either prove the conclusion or prove that the conclusion is wrong... right? Unless its a fact set

Hi Micro,

What you are doing are drills there, and the idea is to get you to look at each sentence and determine if it plays a role. We don't want to waste time there, so every sentence does typically play a role. However, when you get into actual questions, you may encounter sentences that don't have a specifically identified role. That doesn't happen often, but it can, so be aware of that. Chapter 2 is still very early in the process, so there's a lot more to come in terms of how things work!

And it's more nuanced than every sentence supports or disproves. For example, sometimes an author will bring up a point that hurts their argument so they can then minimize that issue. The English language allows for a tremendous amount of variation, but in Chapter 2 we are working on the very basic building blocks of the major argument parts. focus on those for now, and then you'll start to see variations on that.

Thanks!
