Why not C or D? and why E?

I got it right but took time.

TootyFrooty,

Let me turn it around. If it's some other answer, that entails that both passages are concerned with answering the question represented by that answer. So...if it's answer choice (C), what is passage A's answer to that? Passage B's?

The only answer that will allow me to actually find an answer from the passages is answer choice (E). Passage A doesn't like thinking historically about moral judgments like plagiarism. Passage B thinks you need to do some historical analysis. This is why answer choice (E) is correct.
