I have a general question regarding time on the reading comp. section-

Sometimes I am able to complete all 4 sections, but there have been times where I have finished the third section with only about 2 minutes left... If this happens on test day, this Saturday, how is it best suggested to spend those last 2 minutes? Should I bother to start reading the passage, or should I skim the questions and see which ones I could maybe answer by just referencing the passage?

Thanks,

Sophie

Hi Sophie,

This is not a predicament you should ever find yourself, but - if you do - I'd focus on answering the Main Point and Purpose questions. They are sufficiently general to enable you to answer them correctly, even if you only have a rudimentary understanding of the passage.

That said, proper pacing in RC is key. You are much better off skipping one question per passage, but staying within the 8-9 min mark and thus completing all four passages, than the alternative: spending 10-11 mins on each of the first three passages and having only a few minutes left for the last one. Most passages contain 1-2 questions that are designed to derail your pace; if you learn to recognize them and skip them, it may be a small price to pay for the ability to finish all four passages. Give it a try :)

Check out this blog post by my colleague Ron Gore, which you might find particularly helpful:
