Hi Josh!

The problem with putting M between H and J is that it forces L to be in the last slot - which is not allowed by the rules, since O must be slower than L. (Scroll up to the first post in the discussion to see this fully illustrated).

To avoid this from happening, we have to put M before H, which opens up space for L to be before O. The full diagram of this is also shown in the first post of the discussion.
