Hi.

Armed with the recent information that some law schools will accept both the LSAT and the GRE, is there an advantage in taking one over another? Is there an advantage in taking both? What's the best way to maximize your opportunity given these new revelations? If you do poorly on one can the other save you? Is it best to take both to give a complete, more well rounded picture of who you are and what capabilities and potential you possess? Or, is this just a new way to add extra pressure while bogging you down with more test strategies and anxieties? If you put some time into the LSAT is it too late to switch to the GRE? Is the GRE easier than the LSAT?

Thanks.

Hi Michael,

Good questions! Our current position is that so few schools accept the GRE (Harvard and Arizona) that it's not yet worth the time. However, that's for 2017. If you're looking at applying in Fall of 2018, I'd bet by then things change quite a bit!

Currently, law schools are required to report all LSAT scores, so if you do poorly on the LSAT, the GRE cannot save you. that may change eventually, but not yet.

now, the two tests do share some similarities, especially in shorter and long reading passages on the GRE vs the Logical Reasoning and Reading Comprehension on the LSAT. Most students I know (and me too, for that matter) think the LSAT is harder than the GRE, so we recommend studying for the LSAT first, then the GRE, if you do study for both. The higher difficulty of the LSAT will make the GRE feel easier when you take that exam.

So, for now, I'd say stick with the LSAT. Please let me know if that helps. Thanks!
