Hi,

I'm wondering if I need to write an LSAT addendum for my score increase, and if so, what I should include/how long it should be.

I took the LSAT in June after studying pretty rigorously for it. However, during the test, there was a disruption in the middle of the second section. A loud meeting started next door and the proctor started talking to us during the test. I completely lost concentration and missed 14 questions in that section alone.

I ended up with a 161. I retook the test in September (and barely studied in between the tests because of how much initial studying I did) and got a 176. Does the test day disruption warrant writing an addendum? If so, around how many sentences should it be?

Thanks so much,

Elisa

Hi Elisa,

Thanks for posting this over here! In this case, I would write a very short and causal addendum that explains what happened the first time. Something along the lines of:

  • LSAT Score Increase Addendum

You may be wondering about my LSAT score increase from 161 to 176. During the first LSAT administration....etc etc.
You have a very reasonable explanation, and this answers the natural question of, "Why did she increase so much the second time?" It's not something essential (hence the short and breezy tone) but people are people and they will wonder what caused that. This addresses it completely and checks a very small box that some Adcomms might have. If you can insert some humor there, I'd do it (example second sentence: "Although some might wonder if I had a sudden increase in my academic prowess [or, brain power/ability/etc], the truth is far more pedestrian."). These things tend to be rather dry and often boring, and so bringing a smile to someone is an opportunity to stand out a bit, even if in just a small way.

Thanks!

Thanks!
