Hi! Does anyone know if there’s going to be a limit on the amount of scratch paper we’re given? Thanks!

Hi Kia!

Good question--yes, there is a limited amount of scratch paper provided for the digital exams. You will be provided a booklet of scratch paper that includes sufficient paper to diagram for the entire test: somewhere around 12-15 pages, for which you can use both sides to diagram. To prepare for the exam and ensure that you'll be able to do the necessary diagramming within those page limits, I would recommend practicing each full practice test with an amount of paper slightly less than that booklet (so approximately 10 pages). That way, you'll be certain you'll be able to fit all of your diagrams on the provided paper without any trouble.

One additional point to be aware of: each sheet of scratch paper in the booklet has an LSAC watermark that is visible in gray in the middle of the page. Some students reported some issues with visibility of markings if they tried to write over that watermark. So be prepared either to "diagram around" the watermark, or to use the writing instrument (either the pen LSAC provides, or your own pencil--which you are allowed to bring and use) that is most visible to you when writing over the watermark.

I hope this helps!

Hi!
1. I know you spoke about the watermark issue again on the September crystal ball podcast, but said that LSAC might change that for the september test. Is there any indication that they plan on removing the watermark for the september test's scratch paper?
2. Also, do you know of any similar watermarks out there so we can practice on a piece of paper that's similar to what we might expect?
3. (Last question I promise) If there's no way to prepare for dealing with the watermark ahead of time, do you think it's better to try to draw over it (in order to save space) or to avoid it (to avoid any confusion)?

Thanks, sorry if this is an inappropriate chain for the question. Really love your LSAT prep program and podcast, you guys should put out polls for your cocktails ahead of time though, might have helped you avoid the three wise men catastrophe.

Hi Jlms,

Thanks for the questions! Some comments in reply:

  • 1. Just to be entirely, clear, we did NOT say they'd change it for September. We said we hoped they would change it but did not expect them to do so since they likely printed thousands of these booklets. I do hope they change it at some point though!

    2. No, not really. I personally did not take July in favor of instead assessing the aftermath, so I haven't seen the booklets in person.

    3. Somewhat better to avoid it according to reports from July.
Thanks!
