Hi,

Under the time contraints and based on the people I know with this name, I associated "Charlie" in my writing prompt with a girl and kept referring to Charlie as she/her. When I got back my writing sample, I found out that Charlie was actually identified in the prompt as a "he". Is this considered a grave mistake in this day and age, one that might warrant a retake? Sorry if it is a silly/irrelevant question, I am an international applicant and the current zeitgest made me wonder how unacceptable such an error is.

I wouldn't worry about it, rubensimon20. While this could be offensive in some cases, in this circumstance nobody reading your essay will pay any attention to it. They might not even notice. It makes no difference to the quality of your argument, which is all they will be interested in, to the extent that they are interested in it at all.
