I am struggling with completing each section of the LSAT on time. By the end of the 35 minutes on each section I typically have a handful of questions that I just have to throw a dart at and guess. Is there a method or a rhyme or reason to choose a particular answer over the other four choices?

For instance, from my observations through the online course and taking old exams it seem like choice D and E occur more frequently. My thought is that by making the correct answer later in the chain of answers the typical test taker will read the answer choices from A to E, thus, the writers of the LSAT have just eaten up more of our time for other questions that have not been addressed. Am I crazy by my observation or is this by chance something that could be true?

Which choice does PowerScore recommend when taking a guess at a question?

Hi Dustin,

Thanks for the question! You're not crazy, and this is exactly the kind of thing we love to look at. It's also really helpful for everyone to have this info, so we have the answer posted in our Free LSAT Help Area (http://www.powerscore.com/lsat/help/), and you can find this specific discussion at: http://www.powerscore.com/lsat/help/guessing.cfm.

On that page the guessing strategy is broken down in two ways: All Answers and the Last 5 answers (which is when most people are guessing). Here's the TL;DR version:

  • All Answers

If history holds, you would be best served on the test as a whole by always guessing answer choice (D).

    Last Five

As the second table indicates, if you cannot finish the final questions in a section, in the Logical Reasoning section you should always guess answer choice (E). In the Reading Comprehension section you should always guess answer choice (D), and in the Logic Games section you should guess (A).
Please let me know if that helps. Thanks!
