Supplemental Problem Set, Game 1 June 1991 LSAT

Good morning,

I was wondering how you dealt with the set-up in this question. I ordered the offices on the bottom from 1-4, and then created separate rows for the year, computer and printer. However I found this was not very conducive to drawing out the rules properly. How would you advise on drawing out this set-up?

that's strange- I downloaded this from the "Supplemental Problem Sets" and this question is from the "Problem Sets #1" and it is the very first game labelled as being from June 1991, questions 8-13.

Hi Basia,

That's exactly how I would set it up as well. To represent the rules, use double-arrows to indicate that the computer in 2 and the printer in 1 were bought in the same year (second rule), and also that the computer in 3 and the printer in 4 were bought in the same year (third rule). Also, notice that the computer in each office cannot be bought in a later year than the printer in that office. Since there are only 3 years in which the machines could have been bought, the first rule creates a number of dual-options, which makes solving this game relatively straightforward.
