I am just wondering if you could identify answer A as the correct answer by relying on a sort-of "similarities vs difference principle." Answers B, C, and E weaken the argument by accounting for possible differences between the control group and the factory worker group. These differences would therefore invalid or weaken the results of the study.
Answer A does not weaken the results of the study because it describes a similarity between the two groups. In other words, it describes a situation that affects both groups equally and in the same way so therefore it cannot weaken the results of the study.
I remember reading somewhere in the bibles that, essentially, a similarity cannot be used to explain a difference so I am wondering if that concept applies here.
