Hi Powerscore!
I simply don't understand what the stimulus is talking about. Why Zimbabwe doesn't have total ban on ivory yet still maintains a robust elephant population? And why is the answer choice is (A)?
Thanks!

In that one, Zimbabwe has taken care of the poaching issue in its own country, and thus objects to an across-the-board poaching ban.

The question asks for the principle that provides basis for the country's objection to the ban. Correct answer choice A provides that principle: Zimbabwe is not responsible for the problem, so the country should not have to deal with the adverse effects of a total ban.

I hope that's helpful--please let me know whether this is clear.

Thanks!

Hello - could you please explain why Answer A is correct? I selected answer E. I know that in this stimulus Zimbabwe is stating that conservation policies rather than the ivory trade will contribute to the extinction of the elephants. Therefore, they reject the ban on poaching. I am confused as to how answer A addresses that principle.

Hi Smile,

In that one, the author states that Zimbabwe has eliminated problems of poaching within its boarders. The country is against the ban, which would take away the income from a carefully cultivated ivory trade on which the country relies.

The question asks for the answer choice that provides a basis for Zimbabwe's objection. (A) does so: international measures to combat poaching and extinction should not harm Zimbabwe, which was not responsible for the problem to begin with (that is, there is no poaching problem in Zimbabwe).

I hope that's helpful==please let me know whether this is clear--thanks!
