Hi,

For this question I picked AC B because in passage A lines 26-29, “important new experimental results once led university scientist to rush down the hall and share their excitement with colleagues. When instead the rush is to patent lawyers and venture capitalists”

In passage B lines 59-64 “industry argues that if it has supported-either in its own laboratories or in a university-the makers of a scientific discovery, then it is entitled to seek a return on its investment, either by charging others for using the discovery or by keeping it for its own exclusive use.”

I think I misunderstood when I read the lines in passage B. It seems to support the correct AC C. But I couldn’t find the correct lines in passage A that would support C so I felt that AC B was a better contender.

Where did I go wrong here?

Thanks,
Sam

The text you selected in both passages falls short of supporting answer choice B, Sam, because neither quote is about getting credit (recognition) but about controlling access for financial reasons.

The same lines you quoted from the end of Passage A do support answer choice C, in my opinion, as patent lawyers and venture capitalists are part of "commercial enterprises" rather than academic institutions. But the whole passage really supports it, such as the discussion in the second paragraph about shareholders, and in the third paragraph about buying and burying research results.
