Hi PowerScore,

I'd love some advice on whether or not to write an addendum for the reason I'm retaking the LSAT. I took the LSAT originally in February 2014 and got a 163. I only studied for a month... I wasn't sure about law school then, and figured I would take it while I was still in study mode in college. Even though I wasn't super happy with my score, my course instructor suggested I go ahead and take it after my month course since it wasn't an option for me to take it in June due to work reasons.

I've been studying for the December test for over three months now, and my timed practice tests have averaged in the low-70s, so I'm hoping to do well on the actual test. I plan to have my applications in before the December test date, so should I go ahead and write an addendum explaining why I'm retaking it even though I won't have my score?

Thanks so much for all of your help!

Hi ltoulme,

Thanks for the question! At this point, I wouldn't write one that simply says you are retaking to get a higher score. That's a thought that's inherent in any retake, and you don't want to waste their time making a statement that doesn't add anything new to the mix :)

You could pre-write one that addresses a significant score increase, which not only signals self-confidence but could save you some time if you score much higher (I was slightly confused—did you mean low 170s or low 70s in raw score, which would be upper 150s/160?). I ask because a jump from 153 to 158-160 would not warrant a score addendum. A jump to the 170s would :-D

Thanks!

Hi Dave,

Thanks so much for getting back to me! Sorry for the typo - I meant my timed practice tests have averaged in the low 170's, mostly between 171-174.

I appreciate the advice. That will be my plan!

Laura
