I'm currently working on my law school applications and was wondering if anyone could offer advice. My LSAT score was a 165 and I have a GPA above a 3.8. However my resume isn't great. I do have good letters of rec from instructors who know me pretty well and believe I can write a good personal statement. My goal school would be the University of Washington or schools ranked similarly. Are my odds good? What's the best way to strengthen them? My reason for asking is because I know how unpredictable admissions can be. Thanks, I appreciate your help.

Hi S. 13,

As you can see here and here, your numbers are right on the 75th percentile for the University of Washington's acceptance rate, and last year the school admitted the overwhelming majority of applicant's with scores similar to yours. So you're starting off on good footing there.

As to improving your odds beyond your raw numbers, the best advice is to make yourself stand out. Highlight all your unique or unusual experience in your resume, whether it be academic, employment or anything else that could be reasonably applied to a resume. Similarly, pick a topic that makes you unique, interesting, and desirable as a student for your personal statement, and really hammer home the value you and your background bring to the law school.

Hope this helps!

Hi Student,

Aside from James' excellent advice above, one way to stand out is to submit a great personal statement. This can help with that:
