Hello,

Can you give me advice on what is an acceptable number of LORs to submit? I seem to remember hearing something about 3 being a magic number? Does submitting four detract from your application and regardless of how many years you are out of college is it always better to submit more LORs from professors versus bosses/legal professionals?

Thanks!!

It's two or three, and depends on the school. Each school often will specific what they want to see, with two being the standard minimum and often room being made for a third if it's exceptional. So, check each school website for details!

Anyone submitting four would have to be looking at four really good recs. It's about quality over quantity, and I'd prefer two great ones to four okay ones. Which means that you'd prefer a great professional one over a mediocre professor rec. If you've been out of school for a while, more professional recs are fine.

By the way, this should help too: PowerScore’s Law School Letters of Recommendation Webinar. It covers many of these questions in greater detail :-D

Thanks!
