Hi all,

I was hoping for some LOR advice. I noticed that Fordham Law's website offers the following advice regarding LOR's: "Letters from current or former professors are preferred. If you graduated five or more years ago, professional letters are acceptable."

I graduated college in May. As I currently stand, I have one letter from a professor, and another on its way from my current boss (an attorney and Fordham Law grad), who I have known since elementary school and have been working for since June 1.

Given Fordham's standards, will I be hurt if I do not obtain a second letter from a professor? Or will the circumstances (boss being an attorney and a Fordham guy) make up for it?

Thank you!

AC

Hi AC,

Since you have a professor letter, you're in fine shape. I'd be much more concerned if you wanted to rely solely on non-professor letters. That said, if you have another professor who would write for you and would say great things, it couldn't hurt to go that route. I'm not saying you have to, just that it might be marginally (not a lot, just marginally) better. The fact that your boss is a Fordham Law grad is a small plus, but not so important as to prefer his letter to a professor's, given Fordham's stated preferences.

I hope this helps!
