Deferred from USC ED. What next?

Today I received my deferral from ED to RD for USC. Not sure what to make of it, but definitely a little disheartened. I was curious to know what generally are the best steps to take after a deferral to maximize my odds of admissions? Do I send an LOCI, even if I don't have any meaningful new updates? Any thoughts on how to address an ED deferral would be appreciated!

My stats are: 3.88/166/NURM

Hi M,

Don't be disheartened--you were only placed into RD, not rejected, and that's okay. That means they don't have enough info to make a final decision just yet. And given how this cycle is going to be slow (which we've mentioned on our podcast repeatedly), I'm honestly not surprised at all.

Definitely send a brief LOCI, and mention you are still extremely excited to attend USC and that they remain your #1 choice. That's all you need to do, and it's a low pressure response just to let them know nothing has changed in your mind due to this.
