Hello Powerscore Team,

Hope you are all doing well. Here's just some background information about me and my situation. I have already taken the LSAT once (got a 152- not my best attempt) and am planning on applying for admission either in the fall of 2014 or 2015 depending on how my current job placement works out. I graduated from NYU Stern a semester early with a 3.4 gpa (not amazing either). I started my own shoe business and am working at a japanese investment bank now. I have worked every semester throughout college and have a wide array of work experience and school engagement as well as leadership positions. My future interests are in design thinking and financial innovation which is what brought me to wanting to go to law school.

I have used your prep books and love the guidance you provide. I have recommended all my friends to use your materials. I am planning on taking the LSAT again in October at a different university. I took the exam last year during the university's homecoming activities( poor choice- albeit i had no idea it would be on the same day). I also relaxed a bit too much. I usually stress before exams and that always hurt me. Unfortunately i swung to the other extreme and lost track of time. Timing is the one thing I need to improve on.

I have looked into several JD/MBA programs and was wondering if you had any insight on their worth and what kind of scores I would need to be considered for the programs?

I am in touch and know the head of JD/MBA Admissions at NYU and Stanford. Both of whom have suggested I apply to the programs. My two LOC's are from professors at the university.

LOC 1- Finance- Investment Banking Professor- Head of Credit Suisse for 30 years
LOC 2- Ethics Professor- Head of ethics department at NYU Stern.

I was wondering what your opinion is for these two people as my LOC's? Should I be looking to get a recommendation from a managing director or president at the firms I have worked at or am currently working at? Do these professors seem like decent choices for LOC's, especially if I am applying for a JD/MBA program?

If you could give me any insight into these comments, I would really appreciate it.

Sorry for all the questions. Any guidance would be greatly appreciated.

Best Regards

Raj

Hey Raj,

Thanks for the questions, and thanks also for the great comments about our books. We really appreciate them!

First, both the NYU and Standford programs are top notch, and a combined degree from either would put you on an elite level. You will definitely need to nail both the LSAT and GMAT for each, especially in light of your UGPA. We're talking about near 170-level scores in all likelihood.

With the Letters, those both look good. The key to a good letter of rec is, does the person know you? An impressive title isn't worth much if the writer just makes vague comments about what a good candidate you are. Law Schools (and business schools) see right through that and penalize you for it. Fortunately, this is a topic that comes up with some frequency, so we've talked about it on our blog and online before:
I think those two links will really help you evaluate the letters you have, and whether the new letters would be as good or better.

If you have followup questions, please do not hesitate to let me know. Thanks!

First of all MBA is quite necessary for a bright business future. Do you know the top ten colleges in MBA?

MBA is the course you would have to do if you want to get a job in top companies or good jobs. But it is equally important that you should get your degree from good MBA schools else it is of no use to you.
