Law Schools contacting me

Hello PowerScore,

I am right in the middle of applications right now and had a question that has been bothering me. I have had many law schools contact me via mail or e-mail about what their school has to offer and so on. I was wondering if this meant anything more than simple college advertisement, that is, does this mean that they are somewhat interested in me because they got my information from LSAC and saw my profile (GPA and such), or is there no correlation whatsoever between them sending me mail and my chances of acceptance increasing?

It is reasonable to expect that schools don't just contact you out of the blue. Most of them probably received your information from the Law School Admission Council, and used it in accordance with their Candidate Referral Service (CRS) policies. They typically prescreen applicants based on their GPA/LSAT combo, and if they like your numbers, they might send you an encouraging e-mail to apply (or even a fee waiver if your numbers are high enough). Are you guaranteed admission at these schools? No. But the chances of your being admitted at schools that send you a fee waiver, based on numbers alone, are relatively high.

This is all speculative, of course, but it's a reasonable guess on our part based on what we've seen in the past

How many words is normally expected in a scholarship essay? I have a lot to say, but don't want to make it excessive in length. How long of an essay would a scholarship committee expect?
