The problem with answer D is that the paragraph isn't really looking into the implications of a principle (a rule or guideline being followed). The only implications referenced are the implications of Kahlo's political beliefs regarding what she thinks a strong, independent Mexico should be like. To accurately describe how this paragraph is organized we should be very focused on its movement from the broad, general claim at the beginning to the specific example illustrating that general claim at the end. Glad you see that now!

ashpine: While the paragraph does mention themes that one might say are complementary, that's not how the paragraph is organized. It's just one component of a larger structure, and it's that larger structure that the question is asking about. That structure is basically "here's what her paintings were like, and here's an example that shows you what I'm talking about." The author did not spend the paragraph describing how various themes all relate to and support each other, which is what answer C describes.
