Could someone explain why A is right?
Is it really continued practice during and after? Because I thought that was more of a theory as to how rice growing got introduced. Can someone walk me through their thought process? Thanks!

Hi, sqmusgrave!

You are correct that a portion of the passage does concern itself with the origin of rice cultivation in what is now the United States.

Starting on line 30, the passage shifts into an explanation and discussion of the continued significance of rice after the abolition of slavery. The remainder of the passage discusses this issue. Hence, this period must be addressed in any appropriate title for this passage.

I hope this helps!
