Is “most” really just defensive? The book is emphatic there is only one that is positively correct, and all others are incorrect i.e. there is no spectrum. But then some threads on here DO talk about a spectrum of most and least.

Hi Dancing,

What do you mean by "defensive" ?

As far as "most" as it works in a question stem, there will still be only one correct answer; that is an inviolable rule.

When "most" is used in an argument, the term basically means anywhere from 51 to all (on a 0-100 scale). So yes, it is a spectrum, and I repeatedly make reference to that--it's in the actual definition of the term ("A majority, possibly all") in the book and in many of the explanations I wrote.

Thanks!
