Hi Powerscore,
I'm still struggling to rule out B. Yes, A works because the assumption addresses the conclusion of the argument which is really about the consumers.
The detriment to consumers is because of the shortage of independent books which has stifled variety due to the prominence of chain bookstores. If they both sell the same thing (negation), it looks like they're both effecting the same impression on consumers. Is it wrong because the word "typically" isn't an absolute characterization?
I can say:
Pop stars typically retire after 20 years in the business. While true, this doesn't apply to Madonna.
If an independent bookstore typically carries the same books as its chain counterpart but leaves a shelf space for its local authors then we can say the "typical" in B leaves some wiggle room to say that B doesn't have to be true for the argument to hold.
Thank you in advance!
