Hi megmeg123,
Thanks for your question!
The template you're referring to is not a viable solution, because the last rule clearly states that:
H is deposed on the afternoon of the day immediately following G’s morning deposition.
Thus, G and H cannot both be deposited on Monday: they have to occupy two consecutive days. Consequently, either K or L must be deposited on Thursday morning.
Keep in mind that you're working with an outdated copy of the workbook. The new wording of the drill is not tremendously different from the one you have, but it's closer to the language we expect to see on an actual game:
A lawyer schedules the depositions of ten
individuals—A, B, C, D, F, G, H, J, K, and L—over
the course of five consecutive weekdays, Monday
through Friday. There are exactly two depositions
each day—one in the morning, and one in the
afternoon. Each individual is deposed exactly once in
accordance with the following conditions:
- Neither A nor B can be deposed in the afternoon.
H must be deposed before K is deposed.
D cannot be deposed on Monday afternoon.
K and L must be deposed on consecutive
mornings, with K deposed before L.
H is deposed on the afternoon of the day
immediately following G’s morning deposition.
You'll notice that we eliminated the rule prohibiting C and D from being in the morning, as this rule was redundant.
Thanks!
