Financial Obligation

DeVry University was the first college that I ever attended and I decided to drop out because of my dislike for the school. It recently has come to my knowledge that I have a financial obligation with the school so I am unable to provide LSAC with my transcript from this one school. Should I explain this in a GPA addendum for my application?

Hi Cynthia,

I would recommend speaking directly to LSAC about this situation. There is an obligation to provide transcripts from all schools, and so this is unusual territory and I'm not sure what they'll do. I think it would be safer here to get the word straight from LSAC on how they will interpret this. I hate to say it, but there's a possibility that they won't process your master report without this transcript

However, I just found out that LSAC uses the original grades of classes you retook and calculates it into their GPA system. I went to a community college and had an extremely rocky start. So the GPA I thought was only going to be into consideration went from a 3.05 to a 2.84. A major disappointment!!

I don't know what to do. I just retook the LSAT and received a 155. My original score was a 140.

I guess any hope I had into having a steller personal statement, GPA and addenda is down the drain for a good school.

Yes, you've run up against one of the harshest rules used by CAS when it processes transcripts. If it is any consolation, many good students have been hurt by this rule and so you are not alone. I don't think all is lost. From what I know of your situation,you should still put in some apps at target schools and see what happens. Include a grade explanations and tell the schools what happened and why. Remember: all you need is just one school to take a chance and you are on your way. that makes the task far less daunting! You don't have to convince everyone you can do it, just one, so work hard to find that school and make your case
