I just got back my Dec. score, and it wasn't quite where I was hoping it would be (though not bad either). I am a splitter with a below 25% GPA for my target schools. My LSAT is in the 50% range for some schools, and now lower for my reaches (I was hoping for 75%, but that didn't happen). I have an addendum for my GPA (unexpected illness). How much weight is put on an addendum? Would they only consider it if my numbers were tied with another applicant?

Hello starre,

That is a question which is not easy to answer definitely. If an addendum is well-written and convincing, it may have more weight than it would otherwise.
Addenda can be most useful in case there's a tie, maybe, but even if there isn't, an addendum might still be of use. (E.g., you may not be tied with another applicant, but close to being tied.)

Hope this helps,
David

Hi Starre,

Let me second David's comments—addenda can lower negatives, but they don't often push students over the top. So, in cases of direct comparison they can make a difference, but in the situation you describe it's not likely to make a decisive difference. I'm so sorry to have to say that :(

Thank you to both of you. That's definitely good to know when finalizing my school list.
