Hello!

For this I chose B because i thought that the since the company sold fewer bottles than previous years it was bc they moved from the general circulation magazine to the sports and the general circulation magazine had maybe recently experienced a large rice in circulation which could have accounted for their usual sales, but moving to a normally circulated magazine they could have seen a sale drop b/c it was a change from the general magazine

D feels like its assuming that general circulation magazine is more seen by women than men??

I'm just very confused, I felt like D was the obvious, trap answer "shell game"

Okay, some thoughts here on (B) and (D) that might help :-D

Answer choice (B): With this answer, we don't get an explanation of why the switch seems to be correlated with a drop in sales. All we know is the general circulation magazine recently saw a large rise, but recently could be just the past year (when the cologne company was no longer advertising). But regardless, the rise in circulation over at the general magazine doesn't tell us why the switch caused a sales drop—there's no mechanism discussed here that would tell us why sales went down. In short, a rise in performance at the magazine no longer used doesn't explain why the prior switch was an issue.

Answer choice (D): This answer gives us the mechanism to explain why sales dropped when the switch was made. Namely, by switching exclusively to magazines that had "a predominantly male readership," the cologne company was no longer advertising to women, and as this answer points out, they often buy cologne for men.

Please let me know if that helps. Thanks!
