Can you please take a look at my logic and tell me what I’m doing wrong?
Pg. 2-78 Question #5
Stimulus
Politician: It is wrong for the government to restrict the liberty of individuals; except perhaps in those cases when to fail to do so would allow individuals to cause harm. Yet, to publish something is a liberty, and to offend is not to cause harm.
Conditional Statement Breakdown
It is wrong for the government to restrict the liberty of individuals; except perhaps in those cases when to fail to do so would allow individuals to cause harm.
Wrong- Absolute language
Except - Unless Equation
Find what expect is modifying (In this case harm)
Negate the sufficient.
Government Restrict Liberty ------> Harm (If the government restricts liberty there is harm.)
Contrapositive NOT Harm ------> NOT GRL
Wrong is a negative word so I negated the sufficient
Yet, to publish something is a liberty, and to offend is not to cause harm.
P----> L Contrapositive NOT L---------> NOT P
O --------> NOT H Contrapositive H ---------> NOT O
Chain: O-------> NOT H ------> NOT GRL
A is the right answer but I don't know how to link or diagram P----> L in the chain?
GRL and L can't be the same thing because if O-------> NOT H ------> NOT GRL---------> NOT P.
This can't be true because it would mean if it it is offensive then it is not harmful. (True)
If it is not harmful then it cannot be restricted by the government true. (True)
If it cannot be restricted by the government then it cannot be published. (False) because of contradicts P------>L.
