Linear Base Diagramming Drill 14.

Would cues the reader into know the distribution will be 2-1-1-1? What would have to have been stated for this to be the four days and then another slot for one of the people not selected?

Hi Law,

Thanks for the question! When looking at the base, the days of the week jump out as a strong choice (as discussed in the LGB, days of the week are typically the base when they are present). So, right then you know you have 4 spaces to fill (Monday-Tuesday-Wednesday-Thursday). Well, how many variables to you have to fit into those four spaces? Exactly Five. How do you know all five are used? This phrase: "will be scheduled as participants." That tells you all five are used and will appear on one of the four days.

Since we know each day must have at least participant, we have a base distribution as 1-1-1-1, with 1 left over. That can go anywhere, so you add it to one of the spaces, and you get a 2-1-1-1 Unfixed distribution.

Thanks!
