1st time taker Question

I'm a sophomore in College and I am about to begin to prep for the LSAT for the first time. I've been listening to the Powerscore podcast for several months and I just recently purchased the LSAT Bible Trilogy. I have taken two previous administered LSATs from a 10 actual LSAT book. My goal is to score at least 167 or higher, which is about 7 points above where I have scored on the LSATs I have taken. How much time should I spend studying before I take it a real LSAT? should I take one before the LSAT year ends in May or should I give myself more time and wait to take it in the fall?

First, you are doing quite well so far and that's a great sign Second, you are still early in the process—2 tests is a drop in the water and I'd suspect you still can learn a tremendous amount from where are are right now. 167 is a very reasonable base goal, and the chances are strong that you can climb solidly above that as well. Last, as for how much time, that can't be answered yet. You need to get your practice test range into that 167+ area and do it not just once but multiple times. that might take 2 months or it might take 5—it all depends on how much time you put in weekly and how you progress. Generally we say wait until you are ready, but the one advantage of taking an early LSAT is that the "three times in one test year" rule will reset midyear, so any "early" LSAT won't count against it (although it would count against the "5 in two years" rule. So, my inclination is to say no unless you begin testing in a range discussed above.
