If you are a listener of our podcast, you may have heard us talk in depth about the changes to LSAT question licensing and the impact they would have. In that episode we explained that LSAC, the people who make the LSAT and own all administered LSAT questions, has changed the terms of the licensing for LSAT questions for all companies, and that has far-reaching consequences on how we are able to deliver PowerScore and LSAT content to students.

As of Tuesday, June 30th at 1 PM Eastern we have changed over to the new license and you will see the following effects:

  • If You’ve Purchased Courses, Tutoring, or Tests From Us Prior to June 30th

Good news: Nothing has changed! You are grandfathered in, and all your course access and access to LSATs will not change. One thing that has changed: there have been some alterations to our digital LSAT testing interface as we conform to LSAC’s request to differentiate from their Lawhub system.

If You Are Considering Buying Our Books in the Future

Good news: Nothing has changed! The licensing switch did not affect books so those can be bought at any time.

If You Are Considering Buying Courses or Tutoring From Us on June 30th or Later

The primary consequence of the new license is that for any company that wants to show LSAT questions on a digital screen, each student must have an active LSAC Prep Plus subscription. This means that if you want to take a digital test, watch an online class with real LSAT questions, or just see a video explanation of a single question, then you must have an active subscription to Prep Plus. So, with the new license switchover, any newly-enrolling student will have to purchase a subscription from us during their checkout process, or purchase from LSAC and follow the directions to connect the accounts. The ultimate price will be the same. More good news though: once you have a subscription you can use it with any prep program, and having a subscription with us will allow you to access even more official LSATs than you could get otherwise.

Thus, because every new student needs a Prep Plus subscription, you will see references to it when enrolling in any of our courses or tutoring packages.
Hopefully the above explains the changes that have occurred, and why. But if you have questions, please feel free to post below! I'll check back throughout the weekend and I'm happy to explain what is happening and what your best options are as you continue to prepare.

Hello,

So, if I buy digital tests today, I will be able to access and take them after June 30th without having purchased an LSAC subscription? Is that correct? I havent purchased a course or tutoring package.

TIA

YES, you will! All prior purchases are grandfathered in, and that would qualify :-D You will not be able to buy new tests from that point on, however, you would only be able to access tests/sections/collections you already purchased.

Let me know if that doesn't make sense. Thanks!

Hi Dave!

I just wanted to confirm that all of the questions for homework on the online student center will still all be real LSAT questions?

Thanks!

Hi Caroline,

Thanks for the post! Yes, the course homework will still be real LSAT questions. As a current course student, the only difference you'll notice is a slight interface appearance change, but that's it. :) Thanks!

A few questions from a relative newbie trying to understand the changes to licensing.

Am I correct in understanding that there are no longer digital LSAT practice questions available?
I have been working through the bibles, and when I finished that (in the next week or two), my plan was to move to practicing, real, former LSAT questions through Powerscore (online). Is it true that this is no longer possible? Are these questions/tests no longer available? Or is it just a matter of going through LSAC membership to access them?

Or, if I buy an LSAC Prep Plus subscription and purchase Powerscore material, I will still be able to access the exact same content I could have accessed before the change in licensing? My concern is whether or not candidates purchasing after June 30th will be disadvantaged in that they will have access to less prep material than students who purchased prior to the changeover?

I'm hoping that I'm just missing something.

Under the new rules, what is the best/easiest way to get access to as many former LSAT questions/test as possible?
With explanations, and preferably in a digital format that mimics what will be experienced on test day?

Thanks for the help.

Hi nowornever,

Thanks for the post. The good news is that now that all the licensing changeovers are complete, we just released a new package —PowerScore’s LSAT Testing and Analytics Package.

This service provides access to every released LSAT in digital form—including over 20 tests not offered as part of LSAC’s Prep Plus subscription—as well as our incredibly comprehensive performance analytics to help you identify and resolve any areas of weakness. You can read more about this new offering here: https://blog.powerscore.com/lsat/announ ... s-package/. Please do note that you will need an active LSAC PrepPlus subscription in to access the analyitics package.

I hope this helps! Please let me know if you have any additional questions! :)

Thanks!

Thanks for the information!

In terms of the amount of content. All the content (prep tests, etc) that was available prior to the licensing changes, is that now still available?

Regards

Yes, it is! Once you have the PrepPlus subscription, in our system we can give you unlimited access to any question from any disclosed test :-D

As we've said on our LSAT podcast, overall this is a good deal from LSAC, and on the whole will lead to lower costs for the student. for example, in our Testing and Analytics package we are including the contents of our entire Training Type 1 (and soon, II) series of books. Separately those previously cost close to $200 (which was driven by licensing fees). Now, those come with the package, and you still have access to every other LSAT on top of that.

Please let me know if that helps! And I'm happy to answer any other question about this change as well :-D

Thanks!
