After completing flex tests via PowerScore, I see a few statistical categories, 1st family, 2nd family, 3rd family, first 10, and last 10.

I'm hoping someone can explain or point me in the direction of some literature that explains the significance of each of those categories. Particularly the last 10 because that's where I'm seeing the most struggle.

Thanks in advance!

Hi Brando!

Here's a quick breakdown:

  • First 10 = your right/wrong in the first 10 questions in a section. LR is usually easier here, so you have to do well.

Last 10 = your right/wrong in the last 10 questions in a section. LR is usually much harder here, so this is in a sense a measure of how good you are as time winds down on the hardest questions.

Families = these relate to our LR classifications, which are covered in our books and courses. Questions have underlying information flows which make them similar in what they require you to do (although not in actual execution). Roughly speaking:

First Family = Fact based = Must, MP, Method, Flaw, Parallel

Second Family = Help = Strengthen, Assumption, Justify, Resolve

Third Family = Hurt = Weaken

Fourth Family = Disprove = Cannot
That's not every bit, but enough to get the idea across. We use information from those Families to see inside your abilities and understand how well you perform certain tasks. That can also help us solve problem you have that may initially appear to be unrelated. We talked about this in our podcast episode about analyzing test results (a few months ago as recall), which you may find helpful to listen to when you get a chance.

Thanks!
