Hello,

I am a bit confused as to how we can conclude whether each of the circuit boards are attached by either hand or machine. Except for the beginning three which can be concluded by what the game rules are. The remaining 4/5/7 slots seemed like it was all up in the air to me.
How was this inference made?

For this problem I did:

1: W-->M
2:T-->H
3: S/Z --> H
4: X --> M/H
5:S/Z --> M/H
6:Y-->H
7:V--> M/H

I did get this question right because it was simply in the rules, but I am still unsure how we can correctly know if they are M or H.

Your diagram is excellent, Sammi00, and you made all the right inferences! It seems the only problem you may be having is interpreting the question. This question asks "each of the following components could be attached by machine EXCEPT:" That means the 4 wrong answers COULD be attached by machine. Not that they MUST be, but that they COULD be. And if the 4 wrong answers could be attached by machine, then the correct answer will be the one among them that CANNOT be attached by machine. We need to select a variable that must be attached by hand, and you figured out that it was Y, making that the correct answer.

Your diagram proves that S, X, Z, and V each could be attached by machine. They could also be attached by hand, but that's not the issue. We eliminate them because attaching them by machine is possible, and the correct answer will not allow that. The fact that it was up in the air is exactly what made those all wrong answers!
