Hello!

Why Passage A, but not passage B, refers to the dual nature of light (E)? Not stress (C)? What does this question try to ask? Thank you!

Hi Claire.L!

This question asks for something that is found in Passage A but is not found in Passage B. If you had the answer choices winnowed down to a couple, you could put an A and a B next to each one, then fill in whether the mentioned topic is in passage A and whether it is in passage B. We want a yes for A and a no for B.

This is what we get with answer choice (E). The dual nature of light is mentioned in passage A--you can verify that with the second to last sentence of that passage, which mentions the dual nature of light. That topic, however, is missing in passage B. Since we want a topic that is in passage A but not passage B, this confirms that (E) is the right answer.

Answer choice (C) mentions stress. Stress is mentioned in both passages. Passage A discusses stress in the last third of the passage, and passage B discusses it in the first sentence of the passage. Since we want something that is in passage A but not in passage B, this confirms that this is the incorrect answer.
