Hello all ! I am finishing my first year at American Public University taking Legal Studies. I want to do a 3+3 dual degree type which PACE offers. I work full time and have about 8.5 years til retirement in which I want to be close or done with law school so as to go right into law work. Question is should I do it ? Anyone heard anything better that what you hear from school promo and or YouTube ?

Thanks just inquiring minds wanna know .....

Hi Bobby,

I think your question is whether you should transfer from APU to pace in order to enroll in their 3+3 BA/JD program, graduating in 6 years with both degrees.

It sounds like a sweet gig, though keep in mind that the cost of a single year at Pace Law is over $40,000. Add this to the cost of an undergraduate degree at Pace, and you're likely looking at several hundred thousand dollars in total investment - right before retirement. This may not be a smart move, unless you have a way of paying for that education, are able to secure grant money or a scholarship, or are independently wealthy and want to get a JD for the fun of it.

For a relatively impartial insight into Pace Law, check out Above The Law: http://abovethelaw.com/schools/pace-law-school/

Financial consideration aside, only you can decide if going to law school is something you should do at this point in your career. You need to weigh the pros and cons yourself: the decision is a deeply personal one, and I can't even pretend to know what goes into that calculation. In theory, an accelerated program sounds like a plus - especially since you want to be done with school by the time you retire.

Check out some of the other accelerated BA/JD programs in the U.S:http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Accelerated_JD_program

Or, if you don't like the idea of transferring now, you can always complete your Legal Studies BA degree at APU and then enroll in an accelerated 2-year JD program (see list above). Brooklyn Law, for instance, has the only such program in the NY-metro area.

Hope this helps! Let me know.
