Complete Question Explanation

Strengthen—PR. The correct answer choice is (E)

The film critic in this stimulus complains of the wild speculations that go into supposed "documentaries" and "true stories." The author concedes to the point that freedom of speech entitles these film makers to express their views, but closes with the point that no one necessarily needs to pay attention to such films.

The question stem requires that we find the principle which most closely conforms to the author's argument. Only correct answer choice (E) states the principle at work in the film critic's argument: some views, thought protected as free speech, need not necessarily be paid attention.

A is incorrect because the stimulus at no point uses the word "justifies", or any similar concept. Rather straightforward, that.

B is incorrect because the stimulus does not say that everyone ought to ignore such films, or even that anyone ought to ignore them. It merely says that the conclusion, the concept that anyone ought to pay attention is not supported. This is not the same as an active disproof of that conclusion, saying that therefore nobody ought to pay attention; just that the stance that everyone ought lacks support.

C is incorrect because it is not supported in the stimulus. Nothing about freedom of speech in the stimulus suggests that such expression is actually necessary, just that the filmmakers are entitled to such expression by freedom of speech.

D is incorrect because it goes directly against the stimulus. The stimulus agrees that freedom of speech entitles the filmmakers to express their views, even inaccurate speculations held out to be truth.

I hope that helps!
