I was debating between C/D on this, and ultimately chose correct answer D, however it wasn't an easy decision for me. The reason I ended up not choosing C is because I didn't think the passage discussed the conflict that much in the passage.

However, I hesitated to pick D because I thought "but it was arguably nationalist itself..." was too specific to be a main point answer.

I'm wondering if my reasoning for not choosing C is correct and if there is any other way to go about this question. Any clarification on this would be great!

Thanks so much!

Hi lala,

Answer choice (C) is a broader statement than supported by the passage. The passage says that this was a perspective taken by historians during the relevant period, but it wasn't something that characterized that period. The idea that the transnational perspective was also a nationalist perspective was supported by the passage as a whole. The third paragraph explains why their work was partially nationalist, and the work itself was described earlier in the passage. Even if they only use certain terms in a portion of the passage, the ideas can be interwoven throughout the text. That's why answer choice (D) is supported.

Good work!
