I got this correct, but I was unsure why A was incorrect. Is it because, for example, scientists don’t have to attain an evolutionary explanation of kin recognition to understand why tadpoles nip each other? (Which i thought they did need to attain) Or is it because of the strong language of “impossible” that makes it difficult to argue that the author would most likely agree with?

You're right! "Impossible" is the whole problem. The answer seems to say that something that's actually happening is impossible.
