I understand why answer choice C is correct, but I don't understand why D is incorrect.
Sure, it's an inference question so the answer isn't explicitly stated in the passage.
But there is ZERO mention of the issue raised in D – that if digitalization technology were made even easier to use, then
there would be more unauthorized digitalization. How can I assume that's true if the passage never even mentions that the problem is growing?
It makes sense that this would happen in the real world, but I've tried to train my brain to only work with what's in the passage.

Hey Weezy2,

We do see some support for answer choice (D) in the passage. The author mentions that laws against unauthorized digitization would be very hard to enforce and actually regulate, implying that unauthorized digitization would continue. If a barrier to digitization, such as difficulty of use, was removed, then it stands to reason that more people would use digitization. The author also states that most users of the internet believe in the sharing of information on it - right around line (55) the author states that internet users largely believe in sharing information. The first sentence of the passage also states that users of the internet envision it as a way to have free access to information - this is likely unauthorized digitization, because as lines 23-31 explain, people can reproduce and reshare infinitely on the internet versus in the physical world where copyright law exists.

Hope that helps!

I also guessed C and I still am confused about why the answer is D.

If you chose answer C, lounalola, you got it right! D is incorrect, as Dana explained earlier in this thread. We need to select the one answer that is NOT supported, but answer D IS supported by the text, making it a wrong answer. "Except" questions can be very counterintuitive, because it frequently means that if an answer is good, it's wrong!
