I think your negations themselves are fine, Corgi2018, but your interpretation of the effect of negating answer E is a little bit off. Even if the tar pits are not the favorite place to hunt and scavenge, that doesn't mean they didn't hunt and scavenge there. In fact, maybe that's all they did there, even though they preferred to hunt and scavenge elsewhere. Emphasis here is on "favorite": the author doesn't have to assume that it's a favorite place to hunt and scavenge, just that it is a place to hunt and scavenge.
