Hi there!

I got this question right however, I found myself really going back and forth between A and D when I took this section untimed.

My reasoning was that both answer choices had the same meaning in a way - ultimately, decided to go with A because the word "reinterpret" in D was not something that passed the fact-test from the passage. There was never any mention of the data being reinterpreted, just that it blends in.

I wanted to know if that is the only reason why D is an incorrect answer, I assume that there is more to it, I would like to learn that in order to be able to eliminate this faster and with more confidence next time around.

Thank you!!

Hi Elmo4lsat!

I think your analysis is spot on. Answer choice (D) might otherwise look tempting, but the word "reinterpreted" seems problematic and not supported by the passage. This is a must be true question, and we don't know whether (D) is true because of that language.

By contrast, there is ample support for answer choice (A), particularly in the second paragraph. We're told there, for example, that "we often retain the new data as a reinforcement of the corresponding aspect of the memory [or] retain them as a construction to fill the corresponding gap" (lines 32-36).
