why is C the correct answer? I thought the stem never talked about "if they want to maintain their diet"?

Hi dshen123!

Answer choice (C) refers to "if they are to maintain their weight" rather than "if they are to maintain their diet." Similar language about weight is also found in the stimulus, as in the second to last sentence.

The stimulus conveys to us that if a person goes back to pre-diet amounts of food, the person will not maintain the reduced weight level that resulted from dieting. Going back to pre-diet amounts of food means the person takes in far more calories than necessary, which produces excess weight. People therefore must not go back to eating pre-diet amounts of food if they are to maintain their weight at the reduced level resulting from dieting.
