I ended up choosing E. I want to confirm my reasoning for why E is wrong.

In Passage B we establish that a disconnect between the expectation and reality causes negative emotions. If the soft to loud was expected then it would not elicit negative emotions. Is this why E is incorrect?

Many thanks!

Hi Amaresh!

For this type of question, it can be useful to put an A and B next to each answer choice you're considering. Then, ask whether the author of Passage A would agree with the statement, disagree with it, or it's not clear what the author would think. Do the same for the author of Passage B. We need something that both authors would agree with.

If you apply that methodology to this question, to me it comes out that we're unsure about what either author would think of (E). Passage A does discuss softness and loudness and unexpected sounds, but I don't see anywhere where the author expresses agreement with something like (E). That also seems to be missing with respect to Passage B as well.
