Hi Powerscore,

I have a question about 6. A seemed obvious but I went with E. The author's entire argument is that it is not understood how the Kinglet, unlike other North American forest birds can survive in extreme cold temperatures. The birds mentioned are introduced in the beginning to make a point that other NA forest birds have employed ways of serving the cold, unlike the Kinglet which is yet to be understood—forming the basis of the passage.

What is wrong with my line of reasoning here?

Hi PresidentLSAT!

One potential issue with answer choice (E) is the word "prove." To me, this is stronger than what the author does in the first paragraph. The author doesn't exactly prove but rather just states some facts about these different bird species. Proving might look like going more depth into each of the claims, perhaps supporting or substantiating them with experiments or studies.

Another problem with (E) is the language about "a unique approach." It's true that the three examples given are of different birds that survive the cold through different means. However, the author doesn't then go on to argue that each method of survival is unique just to those three types of birds.
